Aug. 18th, 2006 @ 07:05 pm Guide To Money
About this Entry
shi_tien:
Hey, folks! With the upcoming date auction and whatnot, I decided that letting everyone know how much money is reasonable to have and how much things normally cost would be a good thing to do. So voila! FireflyMUX's guide to everything (or most everything) money-related.

The basics and then some!Collapse )

Questions and/or comments can be left here in the comments or directed to Shi-Tien on the game!

Hey, guys! With the addition of a new staffer [Mazu] and major plans in the works, the staff decided it was about time to let you in on what exactly we're planning, and what it's going to mean for the MUX. There are some significant changes coming that'll change what and how you play, and we're awfully excited about it. We want to let YOU in on that excitement! So, without further ado, here are some of the things we are currently working on.

By August 1st, we plan to have the following completed:

HighgateCollapse )

House MadrassaCollapse )

The AcademyCollapse )

So those are our major plans, and we're working hard to get them finished for you just as soon as we're able. We're going to pair these changes with an extensive advertising campaign, so by all means, spread the word to anyone you think might be interested. We'll keep you updated on when the changes happen and what it means.

In the meantime, you can let us know what you think by sending an @mail to *STAFF or by leaving a comment here. You are permitted to leave anonymous comments on this site, so even if you don't have a LiveJournal account, you can drop us a note. Be sure to include your in-game name so that we know who you are, though! If you have any suggestions, comments, concerns or questions, we're around to help.

Hey, guys! I know we've been a little silent on the staff front for a while, and things seem to have slowed down a little bit, but that doesn't mean we weren't still working on some fun new things for you all. There are some giant changes coming, and one of them (probably the biggest) is ready for you guys to test out: a brand new character generation/application process!

Read more...Collapse )

If something in this post needs clarification (I wouldn't be surprised), leave a comment here or @mail me on the MUX. If you want to check out the new character generation set-up, there's a link to it off the OOC Nexus, so just type +ooc and you'll see the exit. Hope you all enjoy this change, which is just the first of what's to come!

Well, kittens, it's happened again: Ottawa lost power this morning for the second time in two weeks. What's up with the power outages? I have no idea. This morning's was caused by construction! I just called our hosts, and they have yet to get their power back. (That's not surprising, since of the 40,000 people who lost it, only 17,000 have it back, myself included.) Cross your fingers that it comes up soon, and sorry my city's power is so flaky lately!

Character Naming in the 26th Century

Names are constantly evolving over time; what’s considered a “common name” fluctuates based on any number of criteria. The current century, cultural influence, multicultural influence, and even who’s president at the time affects how parents name their baby!

Roleplaying in a setting that combines the future - the 26th century – with the merged cultures of America and China, all blended together in a space age Western stew of numerous influences brings about a particularly interesting conundrum: what do I name my character?!

It doesn’t have to be a conundrum! And maybe it isn’t – but the fact stands that, even in a world of many worlds, some names (and don’t forget surnames!) fit and some names don’t.

This guide applies to everyone, regardless of whether you’re a new player just creating a shiny new character or if you’re a current player seeking inspiration for an alt, NPC or the name of your cousin twice removed from Beaumonde. Take it for what it is – a guide, not a hard-and-fast rulebook! Forgive me if it's a little over-simplified or obvious; it's meant to be! As a whole, you guys are great at ... well, naming yourselves, as well as the complimentary characters of the 'verse. This, as I said, s a very basic guide, intended to be an aide and reminder.

One of the things we promote here on FireflyMUX is the idea that you can create and run your own TinyPlots for your character/crew or a large group of people without needing it to be staff run. This gives you a certain level of responsibility and accountability for development among your characters, which is great, because it puts you in control of your evolution! However, we understand that writing TinyPlots can be a daunting and difficult task, so we put together this little guide to try and make it easier. No one is ever going to tell you "this is exactly how you write a TinyPlot" - but what we hope to accomplish with this post is to give you some guidelines to help you create a well-rounded, organized, interesting and relevant TinyPlot that will run smoothly.

Questions to Ask YourselfCollapse )

Guidelines for TinyPlot WritingCollapse )

These are just guidelines. There is no one way to write a TinyPlot, nor can one be said to be "right" or "wrong" when writing something like this. These are, however, valuable things to keep in mind while writing your TinyPlot to make sure you get the most mileage you can.

And of course, remember that staff is always around if you need help with any aspect of writing or running your TinyPlot!

Hey, guys.

Just found out that the house where our MUX's server is hosted has no power for now, which explains the downtime on the MUX this morning/today. It's only temporary, and I apologize for the inconvenience. :/ Right now, I don't really have any details on when the power will come back or if anything was lost. Cross your fingers that it'll be back soon and that we didn't lose a thing!

If you are on any other games with other players or if you talk to any of them in the meantime, pass along the message that the MUX is down due to a power outage and will be back up ASAP. Thanks for your patience, everyone. :)

The moment you've been waiting for! Tons of awesome new RP has happened and fun new characters have joined the game since the creation of the first ever BDAs, but the winners are timeless.

It's been fun, and there's been lots of voting. Some nominees won my a hair's breadth. Others won by a landslide.

I was going to make pretty icons or banners for the winners in some categories, but I didn't have time ... so ... now you're just left with the good thought and a longing for graphics. It's the thought that counts!

Anyway, without further ado, the winners are...Collapse )
